How To Sell A Vehicle And Accelerate The Plasectomy?
How do you sell an extra vehicle? Seriously, how?
We have a 2001 Ford Explorer that since been replaced by our minivan. Looking back I often wonder if maybe we should have forgone that purchase and dealt with 3 kids lined up in the backseat and save $247 a month on a car payment. The reality of it is that we were silly in purchasing the van. However, I have said it before at least I think I have and if I haven’t, I love the minivan. There I said it, as a man, I love the minivan.
The Explorer has 109,500 miles on it and some recent maintenance work and from what I am the engine would last forever and all it does is sit there in our driveway day after day. Our home is small at 702 square feet, but somehow our drive is long enough to accommodate three vehicles. This is nice, except for when you need to play musical cars and then in becomes a major pain in the butt. I have listed the Explorer several times on Craigslist over the past couple of weeks with little interest beyond the scammers who would like to purchase it for their brother/sister/mother/father/dog/cat…you get the idea. I really would like to get as much I can for it and the value according to Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book ranges from $4,000-$4,900. I had it listed for $4,200. I don’t want to be greedy and I don’t want to sell myself short. I look at this as another great opportunity to help out the plasectomy and raise us out of a little more debt.
I have thought about getting an ad up on Autotrader and the cost would be $39 until it is sold. I think that this is a fair deal to get it sold and it would expand my visibility tremendously.
Anyone have any tips on getting this sold quick without selling myself short?

My husband said you should price it at $2,500 or best offer. Then you will get some bites.
Think about how much is it costing you to sit there. It’s costing you insurance and it’s costing you interest that you could be saving by paying on your credit cards.

I know I should probably price it lower, but I don’t want to sell myself short from what I could possibly get for it that could go to the plasectomy. There is a huge difference between $4,000 and $2,500 going towards the debt. You are right though that it sits in our driveway doing nothing but costing us more money. I think I am going to have to resolve to drop the price to something that at least catches some real attention for a potential buyer.
I hate selling cars….ugh.

Afraid I can’t help you price the car but I agree with 444, that the vehicle is costing you money every single month you have it. Since I sold my car in December (and I had only one) Ive been biking everywhere and am saving over $250 per month by not having it sitting in my driveway.
Good luck.
