Finally, It Is Finished, The Gas Guzzler That Is
I met the buyer Saturday morning and things went off without a hitch. We drove about 30 miles north of where we lived to drop off the vehicle at his home. He handed me the money, signed the papers and we left. It was such a great feeling to drive away and leave that SUV there. This ordeal had been going on for about a month now and it is over! Yesterday I deposited the money and immediately went and submitted my payment to the remaining credit card company. This brings our total credit card debt down to $3,509.34. That is a far cry from the $17,000 we started with at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately though I don’t foresee any more big wins to accelerate the remaining amount. It is now down to hard work and more work. I anticipate being able to another $200 a month towards this card on top of our existing payment of $100 a month.
That is what $300 a month? Let’s see, $3,500 divided by $300 is 12 months before that remaining balance would be paid off. For me that is not fast enough, I want it gone by the end of summer. This gives me about 5 months to get it done, $700 a month. At this point I am not really sure how I am going to increase my income by $400 a month. Right now I only work one night a week at the pizza shop and I am willing to pick up more shifts, but there are none available. Which means I need to either pick up a third job for the evenings, work overtime, or beg for more time at the pizza shop. Yikes so much work.

I made the same choice last year – sell the car, pay off the loan & buy a beater! The satisfaction of rolling the car payment into the snowball on my other debt has been very very satisfying. BUT Please - follow up with your motor vehicle registration to ensure the tags & title gets transferred!! I should have not let him take the plates, but I failed to do this and the creep who bought my car racked up $50 in toll violations which I had to spend a lot of time/energy fighting!

Hi Michelle,
That sounds scary and I am not sure what the law is in your state, but where I live we are required to take our plates, destroy registration and inspection stickers, and have a bill of sale for both parties. My copy of the bill of sale is now locked up in our safe in case something does happen that I can say I sold the vehicle and signed the title over to them.
Thanks for the comment and the visit to my blog.
